“So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work…So it was, from that time on, that half of my servants worked at construction, while the other half held the spears, the shields, the bows, and wore armor; and the leaders were behind all the house of Judah. Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon. Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built. And the one who sounded the trumpet was beside me.” Nehemiah 4:6, 16-18, NKJV
In routine matters, the calling upon your life has an effect on almost everything you do. Biblically, we are called to minister reconciliation—to bring those in conflict with the Lord, to the Lord. That is our calling. In addition we are gifted specifically with spiritual gifts to follow the leading of the Lord specifically so that we accomplish the purpose for which God created us. Because we are called, we increasingly understand the unique gifting and purpose He created within us; because, as He places a demand upon that treasure the highest sense of fulfillment is realized – there is nothing like it!
Every person is created this way and each has ability to specialize in building the Kingdom—each one is appointed to do certain things. Sadly, many choose to live to themselves, ignoring the call, squandering the gift, and blind to their unique, special, divine purpose. Don’t do that—don’t waste what God has placed within, rather invest it! Ask yourself, did I obey the calling? Did I contribute my gifts? Did I live with sovereign purpose?
So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.
Amen.
