“And God blessed them saying, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.’” (Genesis 1:22-23)
The word “blessing” conveys biblical happiness, benefit, or praise. Its first use in Scripture occurs at the end of Creation’s fifth day, in Genesis 1:22. The word derives from the Hebrew root word barak, meaning to kneel, a significant inference pointing to a relationship between the Creator and His creation, existing immediately at its conception… in the beginning.
In blessing His creation, God instituted a continuous flow of giving and receiving. Something given by Him, then given back to Him. By Him, to Him, again and again, repetitively, setting adoration in motion—the beginning of worship.
The whole of creation receives and ministers back to the Creator, a fact evidenced by His workmanship in those He created, a reflection and open display of His glory! All people and lands follow this precedent, created to kneel and bless Him, first receiving the blessing from Him, then multiplying blessings outwardly to all. Called to be a blessing!
Amen.
