There can be quite a distance between what is believed and what can be demonstrated. When I believe something, I certainly can speak that belief, though a demonstration—action that supports what I speak—is another matter. To demonstrate what I say I believe, I must have more than belief alone. Critical to my ability to demonstrate belief are things like assurance, confidence, trust, corresponding thinking, corresponding actions, and conversation that reflects my hope and expectation. All of these proofs come from purposeful study of God’s Word.

Belief is activated once faith is established. God’s Word contains the faith of God, so if I am to have the same faith as the one who gives it, my faith-source will likewise be God’s Word. The faith that God possesses is transferred through hearing and speaking His Word and is carried to completion on the basis of the Word operating in the heart. Every pronouncement must be matched by God’s Word.

King David wrote the secret of keeping our lives on track: “How can a young man stay pure? Only by living in the word of God and walking in its truth; I consider your prophecies to be my greatest treasure, and I memorize them and write them on my heart.” The Word stored in my heart acts as a protector. And wall of separation between me and sin—keeping me from sin, convicting me before I sin, protecting my life from the harm caused by sin.

Daily time in God’s Word—to stay on track, to grow our faith.

Amen
