The Book of Proverbs is first and foremost a book of wisdom with practical guidance and holy principles that teach believers about the fear of the Lord. This wisdom book is written from God’s perspective—it is about the way life should be. One verse, for example, contains a great visual about how something begins . . . that the beginning of anything reveals the way it will grow and, with that understanding, there is a certain assurance that predicts things like outcome and potential:

  • “Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
  • In the same vein, an old (non-biblical) proverb expresses it this way: “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.”

Parents, as a new year begins, did you know that you can go to the Lord for a fresh word for each of your children? You can! Ask and receive, and don’t forget, you have NOT because you ask NOT. So, ask the Lord for direction for your children, “beginning” now and for their future. The Word of the Lord is your authority!

Everyone, the Lord has a fresh word of strategy for you! He said He would tell you “things to come.” He has prophecy for you—a declaration of His will. He has words of knowledge and words of wisdom for you—information you may not have otherwise. He gives you the Holy Spirit, the prayer of the Spirit, and interpretation for your prayers. He wants to reveal His plans for you!

As we step into a New Year—from the beginning—we sense a fresh start and newness and energy. Take full advantage of this time to hear from the Lord for the year ahead. Ask Him. He will tell you.

Amen.
