Connections for personal relationships are important. We are naturally drawn to some people more than others but in choosing to join ourselves to anyone, on any level, it is wise to first discern by the Spirit the Lord’s purpose for the relationship… and where it will take you.
The associations I choose can prosper, or drain me, nurture my success or lead to heartache and loss. It’s my responsibility to guard those—to place every kind of relationship, association, and covenant before the Lord first, as I believe Him for direction. Then, the choice is mine to follow or ignore His leading.
Don’t forget, the Lord also leads in the matter of ending a connection. Do it without delay. In your heart, make the decision and then, because the process may take time, ask wise men and women to watch for you. Just as Godly integrity guides the commitments we initiate, ending those should draw from the same integrity to lead us out, and away.
It’s why, especially in consequential relationships (in personal relationships or friendships, in business or professional life), part of our seeking the Lord from the start includes where being joined to this person will take me. As has been said: Show me your friends and I will show you your future.
Amen.
