Observers of Jesus’s ministry witnessed divine authority in operation. Jesus said His followers would have the same supernatural endowment, the same divine authority: “Anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done and even greater works…”

Knowing we have His authority means we have His power to establish Kingdom authority in every place. Jesus said, “… the ruler of this world approaches; He has no power over me.” By this we know enemies of the Lord’s Kingdom are not more powerful than He. His authority is greater, and as disciples we are His authority, a release of power in His Name.

True authority is foundational to decisive leadership—we need that, but authority can also be destructive—overriding everything and everyone, superior and without humility; obviously, we do not need that. Jesus said the world doesn’t recognize (and isn’t even looking for) the authority and leadership He gives through the agent of His Spirit.

Unlike the world and the world system, disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ base everything on the Spirit’s work, trusting the Spirit’s leadership to truth: “He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

True authority is foundational to true leadership: “Without the foundations, what will the righteous do?”
