At times, our most enduring and heartfelt longings can become truly inexpressible, taking us to a place where words escape us, all conversation seems unfruitful, and no human effort brings clarity. As Shirley explains, we are left with just one healthy choice at this point: turning inward to the place where God patiently abides. Our spirits yearn to be transformed by truth, to be refreshed with hope for the portions of our inheritance He has yet to impart. Rather than resisting or squandering these opportunities to go deep, learn to recognize them as the Lord’s invitations. We willingly take the plunge, knowing that when we emerge from the depths, we will be prepared to scale new heights in our journey of faith. We echo David’s cry, knowing that God delights to set His truth deep in our spirits, and we welcome Him into the hidden places of our hearts to teach us wisdom (Psalm 51:6).
“In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ …” 1 Peter 1:6-7 NASB
