Authentic Christianity

Authentic Christian living means my reality aligns with the Lord’s view: my life is an epistle—a story, read and known of men; my speech and my actions define my lifestyle, telling my story and framing the facts as they really are. 

A consistent human trait is that we are typically the last to believe our own capacity for wrong behavior. We usually cannot come to an honest self-assessment without Holy Spirit prompting and the counsel of others. Refusal to self-judge means we can become isolated and, determined to have it our way, proceed unaware of danger. Consider the life of David.

David’s position as king protected him until Nathan, a prophet in the king’s own house, confronted David’s reckless behavior, deceptive nature, and the consequences of his sin.

In order to mature as a believer, it helps to have someone watching for us, and, of course, we need to watch for one another so that no one becomes isolated and left to “go it alone.” Authentic Christian living includes the security of nurture in the faith with a healthy understanding of repentance.

God’s love and the love of others invested in and watching for us helps develop lives that tell a story…revealed in words and deeds… honest and open… inside and out.
