“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4)
A person is spiritual in the traditional sense when they are led by religious rules and mindsets, but the Lord has spoken in a new way with a proceeding word so that we can mature to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying beyond the dictates of traditional religion. We are coming out!
In John chapter seven, it was the annual feast time, the Feast of Tabernacles, and Jesus’s entire family, along with most Jews, planned to go up to the Judean city of Jerusalem to celebrate the feast. Also at the feast were Jews who sought to kill Jesus. Jesus, prompted by the Spirit, decided against going; instead, He would go to Galilee. Jesus headed for Galilee and away from Jerusalem where some waited to entrap him. His decision was not the result of natural fear or insecurity but rather His obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Then, the Spirit’s leading changed, and instead of Galilee, our Lord turned back toward Jerusalem, right into the center of both those desperately in need of His ministry, as well as a religious mob who hated His message enough to kill Him. Jesus went, not to obey tradition or because it was expected of Him or to be with family. Jesus went in response to His Father’s direction.
True spirituality includes obedience to the leading of God’s Spirit rather than religious demands or constraints: listen to Him and do whatever He tells you. Today is your day of salvation—He hears you and you hear Him! Today is made for salvation—your portion is to rejoice as one led by the Spirit of God, as one coming out!
Hallelujah!
Amen.
